My daughter has vitiligo. I desperately need to connect with parents in similar situation

I am new to this forum and from reading the posts here I find it to be extremely informative and supportive.  My wife and I are desperate for help and we appeal to the parents out there who are in similar situation to share with us their experiences with the treatment of this condition.

Our beautiful daughter is only two years old.  She has had this condition for almost 4 moths now- well at least since we first noticed a small white patch just below her lower lip.  Now she has white patches on her right cheek, on both eye-lids, on her forehead, chin, arm, buttock, and finger tips.  When we first saw a dermatologist at the beginning of May, it was only a small patch below the lip but it spread like wild fire within a short period of time.  The doctor's initial diagnosis was actually eczema and, accordingly, my daughter was prescribed protopic tacrolimus ointment which we applied for almost two months.  Having seen no improvement and seeing her face lose more pigmentation instead, we decided to stop applying protopic at the beginning of this month.  Seeking second opinion, we took her to the emergency department of a children's hospital so that we can get referral to the dermatology clinic.  We did get referral but we have to wait until September to see a dermatologist.  The discharge diagnosis from the emergency physician was obviously vitiligo which I suspected all along.  Yesterday we saw our family physician to discuss what we should do while we wait to see another dermatologist ( we are not that keen to see the first one again!).  He said he is going to refer us to a pedaetrist to do some allergy tests.  We don't know when we are going to see this one.  We hope soon.  Our family doctor also mentioned that some vitiligo patients do use protopic with varying results.  I read on this forum that some people have used this ointment.  Can any PARENTS please share their experiences with us?  We emphasize parents because we hear that this condition is less stubborn to treat at early age/stage.  Is that true?  We certainly hope so.  It just breaks our hearts to see our otherwise beautiful and happy daughter go through this.

We really appreciate all feedbacks.  Thank you in advance and god bless all.

    Worried parents.

    hi

thank you for your offer of assistance.  like i said we are still waiting to see another dermatologist and also we are going to do some alergy tests.  we have already tried protopic and didn't help but we still haven't given up on medical treatment, so we might try different treatment next before we try herbal remedies.  in the meantime, we would be thankful if you can tell us more about the treatment that your cousin got-you know the name and details.

    thanks

Re: My daughter has vitiligo. I desperately need to connect with parents in similar situation

I understand what you are going through because my 9 year old son was diagnosed in May with vitiligo. We are devastated and have been trying to seek some assistance from Dermatologists. I have been to 2 Dermatologists and had no help or suggestions for treatment. The 1st Dr. stated that it was just cosmetic and be thankful he does not have a life threatening illness. The 2nd Dr. said he does not know much about vitiligo and cannot treat him. So, I actually did some research and located another Dr. but he is not accepting any new patients. I then found another Dr. but they cannot see my son until January 2009.It has really been hard because in these 2.5 months the vitiligo has spread rapidly. He now has it on his arms, legs, hands, neck and a little on his face. I am thankful he does not have a life threatening illness but seeing this disease spread so quickly is just devastating to watch. I am talking to him about it and explaining the this does not change the wonderful person he is and that it just affects his skin. He is at the age where kids are starting to say things and he is so sensitive. I hope you find treatment and a good Dr. that understands this disease.

Thank you very much for your kind words.

Just yesterday we took her to the emergency at a differnt hospital because the first hospital we went to we have to wait until september 3rd to see the dermatologist.  So we thought maybe the wait might not be that long at this other hospital.  We did get referral to the dermatology clinic but we have to call them on Monday to see when our appointment will be.  We hope it will be soon.  It is just frustrating wasting precious time waiting and waiting while our daughter's condition worsens.  In the meantime, we are trying our best to stay positive which is a real challenge.  We pray to God to give us the strength and patience to face this challenge.  Please keep up the positive attitude and God bless your son and everybody.

Re: My daughter has vitiligo. I desperately need to connect with parents in similar situation

    Hi;
Thanks for taking time to reading my advert . I believe that these are the first steps towards your cure.
However the cure is very simple and 100% natural without any side effect as it was confirmed to me .
The doctor is my auntie's husband , I heard that he cured an army General from this disease , but i didn't  take it seriously until my cousin  got the disease and he was 100% cured.
The medicine comes  in  little balls and a cream that you apply ones a week before bed . Without forgetting that you need a lot of Sun .

For that reason I am thinking to rent a  a villa  in Tunisia or Morocco so that a group of patients can go and enjoy the Sun for the cheapest price possible. Because the medicine would give the best  result if used in the right environment and the right diet  in the first 2 to 4 weeks from the day you start using it.

Thanks again for your interest ,at last i would like to say that if you are in doubt you can wait until my patients from London have tried it so you can see the results yourself or i will try to get you pictures of previous  patients . please don t waste time if your kid is young don't waite till its late .
please don't hesitate to contact me on my Mobile if  you have any further questions .

    With Regards
