Hey all!! Bones here...been gone a little while.
I have been perusing the site to see how you are all making out, and Michelle, it sounds as though you may have found your way back to the land of the pigmented!!
While the gel I was using was the Novitil, and I got great results for a while, I am ashamed to say, I have such a hectic schedule, that the two times a day application wasn't happening; therefore I think I halted my progress. The smell was unbearable to those around me as well!! Can you say cod liver oil???
If I haven't mentioned it before, I am a skin therapist, so vitiligo has become my obsession. Remembering what I've learned about visible light, infrared light is the most penetrating, and makes up about 60% of all visible light. The Novitil pamphlet stated you could use infrared light as an alternative to UVB and UVA exposure, without the harmful rays. Again, I had some success, but was not consistent. I have decided to try one other method of repigmentation since I am almost out of the gel. It took me over a month to get my doctor to agree to write the script for the Pseudocatalase cream, but I was able to order it this past Friday. I should receive it no later than Tues or Weds. The cream has to be made and shipped within a day (it has to come overnight because exposure to heat and elements can break down the compound). I will try it with my infrared light, and go to a tanning bed a few times a week. I will definately let you all know how it works.
While speaking with my Esthetics director, she seems hopeful that this may work. She also suggested that I look into picking up a narrow band machine. Michelle, were they really expensive?? Can't say I can afford one yet, but your success makes it mighty tempting!!
Wing, how are you? I would love to see one of these treatments work for you. I will keep you all posted about the cream. I wish the best of luck to everyone.
About four weeks ago, I was at a county fair, and my husband kept nudging me and poking me to look at a woman standing about a hundred feet from me. When I looked, I noticed on her legs was severe vitiligo, and I walked away from my husband. The woman must have seen him staring, because she looked completely deflated when she saw me glance at her. I tried to explain to my husband that though his intentions were not malicious, the way he made that poor woman feel was evident, and I was furious; not only at him, but that I wanted so much to approach her and tell her about this website, and all of us out there who are in need of support and resources. But how do you do that? I felt bad because something may have worked for her. Anyway...just thought I'd share.
Will stay in touch,
Bones
